Getting Started: A Quick Guide for Postdocs
Step 1 When you arrive, visit your sponsoring department in order to be processed for your postdoc affiliation. After you are processed, your department will enter you into the campus database for the purpose of securing a CalNet ID number. This usually takes at least 24 hours.
Step 2 Confirm Your Appointment Contact your department as to whether you have been entered into the campus database. Once your department has confirmed that they have entered your appointment:
You will need the CalNet ID number and your CalNet Deputy’s name in order to complete Step 4 below.
Step 3 Obtain Your Cal 1 Photo ID Visit the Cal 1 Card Office at 110 Cesar Chavez Center, Lower Sproul . It is open from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Please be prepared to present a photo ID card, e.g., U.S. driver’s license or passport, for identification purposes. For more information, visit the Cal 1 Card Office website at: http://cal1card.berkeley.edu/
Step 4 Activate Your CalNet ID To complete the activation of your CalNet ID, you need to obtain a registration token, which is a numerical code. To obtain it, contact your CalNet Deputy, who will give you your registration token. With your CalNet ID number (from Step 2 above) and registration token, you can activate your CalNet ID by going to https://net-auth.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/krbreg. When you enter your CalNet ID number with the registration token, you will need to create a passphrase in order to complete the activation of your CalNet ID.
Step 5 Set up Your CalMail E-Mail Account Once you have activated your CalNet ID: a) Go to http://bilink.berkeley.edu. On the top-left hand side of the page under "Set up your account," click on "email." You will be led to a series of web pages that will eventually require you to enter your CalNet ID number and passphrase. Continue following the instructions to set up your email account. b) Inform VSPA at vspa@berkeley.edu of your new CalMail email address. The VSPA Program requires your CalMail email as part of the registration process. Welcome to Berkeley! |
