Getting Started: A Quick Guide for Postdocs
Visit Your Sponsoring Department for Processing Your Appointment
Visit your sponsoring department in order to be processed for your postdoc affiliation. After you are processed, your department will enter you into the campus database for the purpose of securing a CalNet ID number. This usually takes at least 24 hours.
Obtain Your Cal 1 Photo ID and Activate Your CalNet ID
In order to receive your UC Berkeley identification card, i.e Cal 1 Photo ID, visit the Cal 1 Card Office at 110 Cesar Chavez Center, Lower Sproul, between 9am and 5pm, Monday - Friday. Please be prepared to present a photo ID card, e.g., U.S. driver’s license or passport, for identification purposes.
Contact your department to receive and activate your CalNet ID number and your CalNet Deputy’s name. To complete activation, obtain a registration token, which is a numerical code, from your CalNet Deputy. CalNet Deputies are also housed at the Cal 1 Card Office. Activate your CalNet ID online at https://net-auth.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/krbreg. When you enter your CalNet ID number with the registration token, you will need to create a passphrase in order to complete the activation of your CalNet ID.
Setting Up Your bConnected Account for email and calendar
Go to the bConnected page. On the top left hand side click on “Create Account”. You will be prompted to log in with your CalNet ID and passphrase. Follow the instructions to set up your bConnected account, which gives you access to your campus email, calendar, campus contacts and document sharing tools. Finally, inform the VSPA Program at vspa@berkeley.edu of your new Berkeley e-mail address. As part of the registration process, you are required to report your Berkeley e-mail address.
Welcome to Berkeley!
