Visiting Scholar Definition
Applicants
for visiting scholar appointments must satisfy all of the following
specifications:
| 1a) |
possess
a Ph.D. or foreign equivalent conferred more than 5 years ago;
or |
| 1b) |
possess
a Ph.D. or foreign equivalent conferred less than 5 years ago
but is currently holding a professorial tenure-track position, e.g.,
Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor; or
|
| 1c) |
does
not possess a Ph.D. but has substantial professional experience beyond
a master's degree which permits the host department or organized research
unit (ORU) to certify to the authorizing unit that the individual
functions at the level of a Ph.D. scholar; |
| and |
|
| 2) |
pursue
a program of research which is of mutual interest to and endorsed
by an academic department or ORU; |
| and |
|
| 3) |
research
length must be at least one month in duration. |
| Special note: Currently employed staff and faculty of the University of California are not eligible for visiting scholar affiliation. |

Visiting
Student Researcher Definition
Applicants
for must satisfy all of the following specifications:
| 1) |
proposed
visit is to conduct research for the purpose of meeting doctoral degree requirements
from another university; |
| and |
|
| 2) |
proposed
research is of mutual interest to and endorsed by an academic department,
ORU, or other Berkeley campus unit; |
| and |
|
| 3) |
the
appointment term must be at least one month and not more than one
year in duration. |

Because of exchange student agreements, the following universities
are not allowed to participate in the VSPA Program as visiting
student researchers:
