CalNet ID & Berkeley Email

All affiliates are eligible for and must obtain a CalNet ID number and ID card. Once affiliates have activated their CalNet ID, they can set up a bConnected account for access to campus email, calendar, campus contacts and document sharing tools. For more information on the activation process, please refer to the visiting researcher scholars post-arrival information and postdoc post-arrival information respectively. Please note that Visiting Researcher Scholars have additional requirements that must be met before activating their CalNet ID and obtaining their ID card.

Internet & Wi-Fi Access

There are a few different options for Wi-Fi access on campus. Affiliates are eligible to access AirBears2 Wi-Fi with their CalNet ID. For those without CalNet IDs, CalVisitor Wi-Fi provides a basic level of Wi-Fi access. Eduroam is a secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community. It allows students, researchers, and staff from participating institutions to obtain Internet connectivity across campus and when visiting other participating institutions.

The Library provides borrowing privileges and other services to all our affiliates. After activating your Cal ID card, your registration card should be taken to the Library Privileges Desk (Doe Library, floor 1) to set up Library borrowing privileges. To borrow resources, your Cal ID card serves as your library card for borrowing materials and for access to the Gardner (MAIN) Stacks, Moffitt, and the Media Resoures Center. Visiting Researcher Scholars can borrow monographs for one month, with a maximum of 20 items at a time. Postdocs can borrow monographs for three months, with a maximum of 200 items at a time. Below are general library, research support, and data service resources for further assistance.
